‘Fantastic’, ‘Incredible’, ‘Cool’, ‘Awesome’ are some of the superlatives used by football fans in describing the new Reggae Boyz home and away kits that were launched in Kingston last Friday. Some fans have even gone as far as to compare the new kits with those worn by the Nigerian team during the 2018 football World Cup. The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) is certainly hoping to capitalize on the merchandizing potential of the new kits even as it hopes they will take the team through to the 2022 World Cup.
The kits are already available for sale online at www.jff.live and if you are living in Jamaica and can get to a Western Sports outlet you can be among the first to acquire replicas of the new kit.
Already the AWAY jersey is the design that is the favourite of fans. Sporting a black background, it features a green collar with yellow and green trims on the sleeves. The main body has a vivid colourful graphic that draws from the colours of the Jamaican flag. The HOME jersey has yellow as the dominant colour and includes black, green and yellow taping on the sleeves with the subtle but iconic Umbro diamond graphic accompanied by palm trees embossed on the body. Black shorts with a colourful taping trim, and gold socks complete the home outfit.
Umbro says the kits are inspired by Jamaica’s ‘unique energy and culture’. Both the home and away kits are crafted in lightweight performance materials designed for movement and breathability.
