JAMAICA’S MAN IN MARYLAND – AND THE WHOLE USA: AN INTERVIEW WITH AMBASSADOR CURTIS WARD

AMBASSADOR CURTIS WARD

It is not uncommon for Jamaicans who have served the country with distinction to disappear from public view after a career in the public service, leading to the speculative question; ”where are they now?”

Not so in the case of Ambassador Curtis Ward who had a distinguished 8 year career in the Jamaican Foreign Service, half of that time as Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations with special responsibility for Security Council Affairs. During that time he acquired expert knowledge in the working of the international system particularly as it related to security, counter-terrorism and an array of global issues.

Now in retirement, Curtis Ward puts his ‘Ambassador’ title to practical use in representing Jamaica and the Caribbean in many private spheres with enthusiasm and a fierce loyalty. From his unique vantage point in Maryland USA, Ambassador Curtis Ward is able to speak and write openly and publicly as a private citizen on issues relating to US/Jamaica relations in a way that no government or diplomatic representative can. Through his online platform The Ward Post (TWP) he discusses topical issues and provides timely analyses on issues and developments affecting Jamaica and the Caribbean resulting from US government policies. His special focus, not surprisingly, is on crime, security and Diaspora Relations (www.thewardpost.com).

Few are more qualified or have the depth of knowledge and experience than Curtis Ward. A native of Treasure Beach in south St. Elizabeth, he is an alumnus of Manchester High School in neighbouring Manchester parish.  Armed with a bachelors degree in economics and political science AND a law degree from Howard University in Washington DC, Ward read for a Masters degree in Law from Georgetown University also in Washington DC, before joining the Jamaican Foreign Service in 1975.

Listen now as Ambassador Curtis Ward talks about his life and career in this spontaneous interview on CaribNation TV……….
