INTRODUCING A NEW FEATURE ON JAMAICA GLOBAL ONLINE
The economic impact of the current Covid-19 pandemic and its attendant uncertainties about what life is going to be like when it is brought under control, today occupies the minds of Jamaicans wherever in the world they live, work and do business. Many are facing the prospect of job losses, failing businesses and the depletion of assets both liquid (cash and bank savings) and non-liquid like real estate, stocks and shares and other goods of value. Uppermost among their concern is taking appropriate steps to safeguard whatever assets they now own and finding the best way of safeguarding whatever cash reserves they have and making it work to provide maximum returns. Beyond that many will be faced with the prospect of starting over whether in a new job or changed career or taking the bold step of starting a business.
BUSINESS CORNER with Dr Hopeton Morrison is a feature page on jamaicaglobalonline.com that will provide information about opportunities in Jamaica for economic recovery, including new programmes introduced by government and its agencies across various sectors of the economy as well as by private sector institutions. Dr Morrison will sift through the various initiatives available and provide easy to follow instructions and advice on how to get over the bureaucratic hurdles that are familiar obstacles in the way of accessing such programmes. A special area of focus and one that offers good prospects for first time investors is buying shares in the local stock market. While not claiming to provide investment advice on what shares to purchase or when to buy and sell, Dr Morrison will take the would-be investor on an educational tour of the Jamaican stock market and provide timely tips on how to become a savvy investor.
